Tumuaki | Principal Message

What a wonderful week we had last week - full on but lots of fun and learning. Each day of Samoan Language week, our student council rotated through the classrooms teaching a range of Samoan language. Malo lava | Well done to them all for their excellent leadership with this.

The seniors chose activities to teach the language about for cooking, card games, lei making, and song and then last Thursday we had a day of activity.

Everyone loved it all - Panipopo | coconut buns, Chop Suey, Leis, Ulu, Tau'au, Tulivae, Tama'ivae | Samoan Head Shoulders song; language cards and Suipi | card game. The range of activities was excellent and everyone enjoyed rotating through the learning.

Fa'afetai | thanks to the aiga | family who were able to join us for the sharing time.

We all loved hosting our grandparents for a time of prayer and sharing on Wednesday - a time to remember how blessed we are to have grandparents in our lives. Some grandparents face-timed to be here which was special for those with ones living overseas. Ka pai to all those awesome whānau who sent in something for morning tea - our guests as well as all our tamariki thoroughly enjoyed it!

It was even more special for our Year 8s for their final grandparent mass & morning with their grandparents.

This morning I had the privilege to be part of the reopening of our Cathedral as the strengthening work has finally finished. Members of the mana whenua - Te Atiawai led us for the Whakawātea dawn blessing at 5.30am, explaining to us all the understanding that we gather before dawn in order to embrace the energy of the waking day. As the whakawātea proceeded, we walked around the Cathedral, touching the walls so that our energy could be transferred into the walls of the whare karakia - Cathedral.
Do pop in over the weekend to see this magnificent building once more a place of prayer and worship. I have included the timetable below.

Finally our grateful thanks to the whānau who have helped with all the activity over the past few weeks - transporting to and from the football tournament,  baking and helping serve the Grandparents' morning tea and the ongoing help given for the Friday lunch orders. Be assured we are all most appreciative!

Ngā manaakitanga.
