What an excellent start to the term we have had with all our tamariki settling back into school quickly and being thrilled to catch back up with their friends. We welcomed Freddie to Te Maunga and this week we are welcoming Luka to Te Moana. Please watch out for their whānau and welcome them into our community.
The senior syndicate has had a highly competitive few days as they have practiced and then competed in the internal school competition. Some impressive teamwork and creative problem-solving in order to complete the challenges. Now we have the difficult task of selecting 2 teams to put into the Epro8 regional competition. Read more about this by Te Moana.
Parable of the Lost Sheep
In the senior classroom, the A.R. I.S. E programme challenges our seniors to follow their passions or ‘set out of their comfort zone.' We were thrilled to see one of our talented seniors - William’s latest effort with creating a very important scriptural message through film - check out William’s great effort on our school website’s home page
The A.R.I.S.E. programme is:-
- Attitude – be the best you can be
- Risk – manage and take calculated risks
- I am loved by God – make Te Atua my alpha and omega
- Strive – have a strong work ethic
- Empathy – have the capacity to understand those I encounter – walk a mile in another’s shoes
Next week Helen Revill will be joining us to complete the next part of our journey with the Creative Schools project by painting our Māori history and myths in the style of Richard Killeen. Our tamariki will be exploring the skills of screen printing to achieve this. If you haven’t already please pop into the meeting room to see the variety of ideas outlined.
Congratulations to our 3 swimmers who represented us at the Primary Schools' Zone Meet at the end of the last term and for gaining places in their chosen races. Charlie Smith, third in the butterfly event, Emily, 11th in the breaststroke, and Issy St Just sixth in the backstroke. Some excellent results as they competed against swimmers from across Wellington, with most races having 3 heats so a big field of competitors - Ka Pai girls! What was also wonderful was the fact that the Primary School Wellington (PSW) Inter Zone Swim Meet had not been on offer after not being able to offer it for 3 years due to COVID restrictions.
Athletics - weather permitting we plan to go to the park at 12:30 to eat our lunch and begin the athletics. Please come along and join us for this fun time. The House events will be approximately from 2:20 pm on. We would love to see you to support and dismissal for all will be from the park.
Any changes to the plan due to weather will be a Hero notification

November is a time of focus on those who have died and gone before us...
All Saints November 1. ..
In the year 835 AD the Roman Catholic Church made 1st November a church holiday to honour all the saints. This feast day is called All Saints' Day. "All Saints' Day" annually reminds us of our connectedness as Christians. Perhaps, you were taught to think of saints as statues in a church building. But the Bible teaches something completely different. Who is a saint? You are. That is if you’re a follower of Jesus. There are saints who died for their faith - the martyrs. All of them are honoured by the church.
All Souls' Day - 2 November
On All Souls' Day the Roman Catholic Church remembers all those who have died - not just the great and the good, but the ordinary and especially those loved ones. Take time to pop in and add the names of your loved ones who have died and the parish will keep them in their prayers this month.
Message from St Vincent de Paul - Christmas Hampers
Once again, St Vincent de Paul has a major operation already underway with their Christmas Boxes...
You will be able to keep up to date on the specifics via our regular “Vinnies Corner” posts in the Parish newsletter. Some things will be familiar, and this year, some things are changing – all with a focus to ensure our direct clients and Parish and School referrals are our priority. Our aim is that boxes for these families are brimming over with items that demonstrate the love of Christ – a love that is practical and personal, and special and celebratory.
There will be baskets in all Church foyers for the collection of goods or you can drop items into our Pak’nSave Kilbirnie collection on Saturday 26 November. Cash donations can be left in the “blue boxes” in most Church foyers, given at Pak’nSave Kilbirnie Collection on November 26th, or direct credited into our conference bank account: 02-0576-0017817-006. Absolutely everything collected will be used for Christmas.
We look forward to your help so that Christmas box recipients are able to celebrate Christmas - and then hopefully also to pause and wonder at the love of Christ in Christmas.
Working Bee 19th November - time tbc but will be in the afternoon
In case you’re wondering what a working bee is, this is an occasion where a group of volunteers come together to do work for a common purpose. In our school, it’s a great opportunity to get to know other whanau and serve the school through an hour or two of your time (and some physical effort!).
The goal of our working bee is to continue to beautify the back fence and picnic tables by staining them (oil with a stain). You’ll need to wear old clothes and we’ll supply the stain and paint brushes for the latter task.
Feel free to bring a drink to share at the end of the day.
Ma tini ma mano ka rapa te whai | Many hands make light work.

White Sunday is a group of kids who dance and sing to songs and create a play altogether. Some would have dinner after White Sunday and some wouldn’t. The day I did it we wore white and wore red ribbons on our clothing. We did a starting and ending dance to welcome them. We also would have to wear crowns on our heads. That includes white socks and shoes but some people wore red crowns. You would also sing songs while 5 other kids are getting ready to go up so it’s not quiet while going up.
Before our White Sunday we had practises at St Anthony’s Church on Tuesday, Thursday, sometimes Friday and before the day we practiced on Saturday. Our first dance was everyone dancing then after our own items. There were the little kids 2-6 big kids 7-12 bigger kids 13-25. The little kids sang their song “this is the day” and did their speech about themselves and sang a little song.
The big kids danced to “Peace like a River” and “God is Good.” After our turn two families had their item. One family danced to 2-3 songs and the other family sang. After them the older kids came up and sang and danced to “Sailing on the Sea of his Love”,” I Believe” and Peyton sang “Oh Happy Day” from the Sister Act 2 movie and he didn’t do the high note because he knew he couldn’t reach it so Nica (short for Veronica) sang it. Then they all got together and did their play about Jesus. The next song came on and we all did our solos whoever was in the play. Big and small children then went to the stage and did our last dance and then ended with a little prayer. We got some morning tea and went to Lower Hutt restaurant and had dinner.

Using aluminium steel rods and lots of connectors, Te Moana and Te Maunga built amazing creations, like a fire truck, a robotic dog, a scarecrow and many more. We started by getting into teams and each team got an Epro8 kit and a booklet. Inside the booklet were a number of things you could make.
Once you made the frame, there were a lot of technical components to go with it. To help your creation move and do lots of other cool stuff, inside the Epro8 kit are cogs, pulleys, crank handles, ropes and loads of other things.
I really enjoyed Epro8 and would want to do it again. It was fun working out the instructions and would recommend it.

Epro-8
Once at St Anthony’s on the day the 26th of October.
We zoomed into the senior block and what did we see?
A bunch of students. Perhaps 43?
But what was this? I see,
they are hard at work on their building spree.
A competition awaits, this is a trial
of you could say 2 hours,
on the clock.
But when the time is up, all must be dropped.
Screws and aluminium poles varying from large to small.
With a size for all.
The concrete truck, scarecrow and decision maker can wait.
For this championship is about friendship.

Friday Lunches
This Friday your child can order pizza for lunch. Lunch order forms should have come home earlier this week but just in case here it is again. Thanks to our parent helper Anna Kempton who will get the orders sorted for the students.
Price Increase
Unfortunately, due to current exchange rates, supply chain disruptions and distribution costs our uniform supplier has had to increase their pricing. This is only the second time in 10 years that they have raised their prices and have tried to keep the increases as low as they could. Please see our website for the new pricing schedule.
Boys Socks
If you have a St Anthony's netball uniform from this season could you please return it to the office. Thanks to those who have already returned theirs.
