Dear Parents and Caregivers
Wellington Catholic Schools Kahui Ako
On Monday afternoon, our Staff attended a Wellington Catholic Kahui Ako 'Super Staff Meeting' at St Patrick's College. There are 13 Catholic Schools involved in our Kahui Ako (Community of Learning) and we came together for the first time. It was a very powerful discussion about our schools, sharing and learning together as well as building relationships.
I am delighted to announce that Jeannine Winton is our In-School Kahui Ako leader and she will be working with the other In-School leaders and Across School Teachers who have been appointed across our Kahui Ako. Our Kahui Ako's Achievement Challenge focuses centre on student wellbeing and achievement in literacy. Our team looks forward to Jeannine leading the sharing of best practice in these areas.
If you would like to read more about our Super Staff Meeting as well as gain more of an insight into what our Kahui Ako is all about, I have included below the Media Release that was sent to local papers yesterday.
Staff Professional Development
Our Staff feel very fortunate to be accessing Digital Technologies / eLearning Professional Development thanks to a $36,000 Grant from the Ministry of Education received last year. You may have heard from your children that last week our CORE Education facilitator Katrina Laurie spent two mornings working alongside teachers and students to enhance our Seesaw (Years 1-4) and LINC-ED (Years 5-8) ePortfolios.

Children's Mass - Sunday 7 April 4pm
This coming Sunday, we have our Children's Mass at 4pm at St Anthony's Church. We look forward to seeing you and your family at the mass as it is a special time to come together as parish and school. Afterwards we will have a shared picnic dinner where you can bring your own dinner and share it outside. This is weather dependent so if it is colder or unpleasant we will move to the Gasgoine Room.
Holy Week Liturgy - Monday 6 May 2pm
Next term we will have our school Holy Week Liturgy on Monday 6 May at 2pm, we invite you come along and share in the children's learning and storytelling about Easter. The liturgy will begin in Kiwi Class and move through the school as each class shares their part of the Easter story. More detail will follow next term but mark this date in your diaries and we look forward to seeing you then.
Faith Reflection
It is easy to say thank you for a gift, like a birthday present or a beautiful day. It’s not so easy to be grateful for an illness, a failure or a “bad hair day”! But we can’t escape tough times. Like the seasons, good and bad are companions in life; health and wholeness, success and happiness are not permanent fixtures. To be able to say “thank you” when you meet a setback or when tragedy strikes is not a sign of madness, but a recognition that everything in life is a gift, that there is a reason for everything, that strength can come from weakness.
Gratefulness springs from the realisation that my life has a purpose and that I carry within me the means to achieve that purpose. All that happens along the way can be used to discover and fulfil that purpose. A layer of faith over my life helps, because it lets me see, in both the good and the bad, a shaping and moulding of me by a wonderfully creative and loving God.
We are so grateful for the generosity shown by our community getting behind the Bake Sale organised by our Year 8 school leaders last Wednesday. $276 was raised and has been donated to the following Givealittle Page: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/christchurch-shooting-victims-fund Thank you for your support!
Mandarin lessons in Kea and Tui
Our Senior Syndicate students are learning Mandarin this year with Jian Xiaoli (Shirley). This amazing programme is in partnership with the Confucius Institute and Scots College.
We have enjoyed learning to speak Mandarin this term because it is quite a hard language. We have learnt the numbers from 1-10 and how to greet each other and introduce ourselves. It is a great opportunity to learn something new. The characters are fun to write and we get to write them in our books. Xiaoli also taught us how to draw a panda and some Mandarin songs to help us remember. She has some fantastic and exciting games for us to play too, they challenge us to see how fast we can answer questions in Mandarin. We are thankful to have Xiaoli come to our school to teach us.
