Update from the Student Council
Disco
Thanks to everyone who has already purchased the disco tickets for tomorrow night’s disco. If you haven’t already please go to the Hero notice and order online or pop into the office. Also if your child wants pizza for dinner we will need these orders by tomorrow morning. This is also on the notice.
, We encourage you to keep your tickets after entering the disco because there will be a draw at the end, and you might just have the ‘right’ ticket
Our idea for the last day of school - giving you a head’s up
he final idea by us- the Student Council is to invite Mr.Whippy will come to Churchill Park for us kids to treat ourselves. This is yet to be confirmed but we are hopeful it will happen! So if you are happy for your child/ren to buy one please send them with some money. Of course, feel free to bring money so you can treat yourself to a nice ice cream as well.
Tamiregnaw-
This is the writing I am most proud of from this year. It was from our descriptive writing and I wrote about a football pitch on a Winter day. I like this writing because I used good descriptions, similes and paragraphs.
Advent:
Te Moana have been learning all about Advent. We know the symbolism of the candles and the wreath, and made some Advent Promises to prepare ourselves spiritually for the celebration of Christmas. Check out Chiara’s Advent promises this year:
Gila:
Last week, Vane from GetWise came to talk to us about how to save money. I wrote an explanation text on saving money based on the things we learned from our session. It is important to remember the acronym C.A.S.H- Clear goals, Action, Spend/save and How long.
Saving Money
Saving money is an important skill that can help you reach your goals and become independent. Whether you want to save for something special or have pocket money for lollies, it's never too late to start. Let’s find out how to save those dollars by using the acronym C.A.S.H.
Choose a goal:
Firstly, you need to have a clear idea of what you want and how much that thing costs. Maybe you want a PS5,books or lollies? Setting a clear goal helps you stay on track and you’re more likely to get what you want.
Take Action:
To spend money, you have to have money. So money doesn’t grow on trees, right? Yes, it doesn't, so you have to learn how to earn your own money.
Neighbourhood jobs are an easy way to make money. You could:
- Wash cars for money
- Walk dogs for money
- Do your chores for money
- Make lollies or lemonade for money
Think of how much money you could make each week and that will give you a good guideline of what you have to work with.
Spending and saving:
If you want to spend money you have to have money. Also if you want to save your money you have to stop spending it. What more money? Sell stuff around your room that you don’t need. Sacrifices are very useful when it comes to making money. Need something that you’ve been waiting to buy for a long time? Then stop buying stuff that you don’t need and focus on your main goal. If you make $20 a week, spend only half of it so you have some leftovers.
How long:
It’s important to know how long it’s going to take to save for the thing you want. In order to find out how long it will take you, you need to divide the amount of money of the item that you want, by the amount of money you make a week. When you get the answer, that's how many weeks it’s going to take you. If you’re not happy with how long your money is going to take you should do more jobs or sell more things.
Conclusion:
So after reading that text are you going to spend your money or save it? Just remember the more money you spend the longer it will take for you to reach your goal. There are a few more things you need to remember, but first. What does CASH mean? C-clear, have a clear idea of what you want. A-action, take action to earn more money. S-spend and save, earn money but spend a little. H-how long, it might take a while but at least you’ll get your money in the end.
2025 St Anthony’s Speaker Series programme
The Board is excited to be planning our continuing St Anthony’s Speaker series for parents and whānau for 2025. We are eager to build on the success of the last two years’ events which have been fantastic opportunities to learn, grow, and connect as a community, and to host the wider Motu-Kairangi community at our school.
To ensure the topics and speakers meet the needs and interests of our school community, we warmly invite your ideas and suggestions. Are there particular subjects you’d like explored, or do you know an inspiring speaker we should consider? Please share your thoughts by emailing principal@stants.school.nz
Bazaar 2025: Save the Date and Get Involved!
Mark your calendars - our much-anticipated bi-annual parish and school Bazaar is happening on Saturday, 22 February, from 11 am to 3 pm. This is a fantastic community event, and we need your help to make it a success! Join us for a planning meeting on Tuesday, 10 December, from 7 pm to 7:30 pm at the school to share ideas, coordinate activities, and learn how you can get involved.
We’re also seeking donations for the White Elephant stall—please bring your items to school on Sunday, 15 December. If you can spare some time to help sort and organise donations, we’d love your assistance. Additionally, we’re collecting bags of sugar and flour for the event. Drop these off at the school office whenever convenient.
Calling all jam makers and picklers! If you enjoy making preserves (or even if you don’t ?), we’d greatly appreciate your contributions. Homemade jams, chutneys, or pickles are always a hit at the Bazaar and help make it extra special. We can supply some ingredients, jars and recipes if needed. Please contact Silke at silke.koepl@gmail.com.
Our school disco for all students, run by the Student Council, is happening this Friday 6th of December, from 5-7 pm. Tickets are $3. There will be pizza, baking and drinks and fun things such as face painting and (temporary!) tattoos, ranging from $1-$5 so please remember to bring cash.
We need to pre-order the pizzas so please complete the form for your order and disco tickets: Order Your Disco Tickets and Pizza Form
If you are paying online for the tickets and pizza, please pay into the FOSA fundraising account number: 12-3140-0317046-00 (ref disco). We will need your pizza order by 2pm this Friday 6th December.
Mainly Play

This playgroup is a fun time of play and learning for 0- to 5-year-olds with their whānau members (Mums, Dads, Grandparents, and Caregivers).
Please spread the word if you know anyone who’d like to join this structured session for the last 2 Fridays for this term: Fridays 10 am school library. Love to see you there, all craft materials and morning tea provided.
