Important Information - Lockdown Practice
In certain situations, it may be necessary to move, or keep, all students inside. These situations include severe storms, a major accident in the school vicinity, or other dangerous situations. The school has a detailed plan for a lockdown event, and regularly practises it with students and staff.
Learnings that have been shared by Principals in Christchurch are that the students got very hungry during the lockdown and there was little food available. Many parents also arrived to schools putting extra stress on the staff and students, as well as school resources. As a result of this information, we would like to reinforce the following:
* We would like to ask that all students bring at least two named muesli bars to school which will be stored in containers alongside the water and Heards barley sugars purchased by the school. Can these please be brought to school from tomorrow, up until the end of Week 1, Term 2. At the end of the school year, students will be able to retrieve their muesli bars. At the beginning of 2020, we will ask for a new supply.

* It is imperative that you do not come to school during a lockdown. We will be looking after your children to the very best of our ability and their welfare is paramount. Having people arriving on site in a stressful situation can place further danger on our students and staff, as well as yourself.
Additionally, lockdown plans are specific to each school and, due to their possible use in a lockdown situation, are not published on school websites or made available to the wider school community. We have an extremely robust lockdown procedure which our staff are fully aware of and will adhere to.
