Another busy term draws to an end and we are thrilled with the progress in learning that our tamariki have made. Ngā mihi maioha | thank you with appreciation goes to all the staff who work hard each day to ensure that our children have the best possible outcomes and are engaged in their learning. We are blessed with a great team.
Our tamariki enjoyed sharing their learning with whānau last week for Te Wiki o te reo Māori and loved learning the poi, rakau, and weaving. Ka pai to those whānau who joined us for the time of sharing.
Learning in Action Morning
What a wonderful time we had on Tuesday morning as at long last a number of whānau were able to pop in and see the classes in action. It is lovely to be back to some normality after two years of being restricted. Ka pai to all those who were able to make it as our tamariki loved it. Discovery Time between Te Ākau and Te Awa created some exciting learning opportunities as they worked hard to create the habitats for their chosen creatures - our new dinosaurs also proved a great hit!
Of late we have had numerous sporting tournaments for our senior syndicate and we have been incredibly impressed with their sportsmanship, team spirit, and overall outstanding behaviour. To the extent a number of people from other schools have come up to express their admiration for how well our tamariki behave and respond under competitive pressure. Ka mau te wehi | Awesome work to all our tamariki - We are proud of you!
Please use the holiday time for your child to find their school hats (navy bucket hats) or a new one can be purchased from the school office. With Term 4 next I remind you that we have our sun protection policy in place and this applies between 10 am and 4 pm - in other words - no hat, no play.
It will be great for you to share the following with your whānau so all are aware of the dangers of our sun - Asnvcx UVR cannot be seen or felt, so temperature and weather conditions cannot be relied on to determine when sun protection is needed. UVR can be measured using the Ultraviolet Index (UVI). The Cancer Society advises that sun protection is needed at a UVI level of 3 or higher. This commonly occurs in terms 1 and 4 between 10 am and 4 pm, even on cloudy or cool days. The level may also exceed 3 at other times hence it is important that we wear hats and apply sunscreen. We have a supply of the latter here for everyone’s use.
During terms 2 and 3, UVR is generally at a low level and students do not normally need to wear hats, apply sunscreen, or stay in the shade. They should be encouraged to actively enjoy the sun as sun exposure has benefits, including increasing Vitamin D absorption. If you wish to read more please find further information from NIWA about the UV Index and UVI forecasts for specific sites.
A reminder that next term we move to summer uniform and so the footwear options are:-
- plain black, no canvas or fashion shoes – soles must be black.
- Plain black sandals and plain black leather trainers are permitted.
- Sports shoes may be worn at break times on the school grounds but uniform shoes are to be worn to and from school
We thank you for your support with this.
Have a wonderful break from routine and hopefully a recharge for you all.
Noho haumaru | stay safe

After a term focusing on 'Caring for our Whenua' please take a moment to reflect on Mother Earth (Monica Brown) (from One People, One Land collection)
Words & Music © 1990, Monica Brown and Emmaus Productions.
Do we make a difference or add to the cost on our whenua?
As is tradition, it is non-uniform day tomorrow for those who are happy to make a gold coin donation for the Missions.
Te Ākau led our assembly this week and we loved hearing and seeing all their work on their minibeast inquiry. They proudly told us the body parts of insects and showed us incredible clay models that they had done - very clever for such young artists.
For the learning in action morning, Te Ākau joined Te Awa for a time of discovery and wonderings to extend their learning - we saw some great creativity in action. Ka pai to you all.
In Te Awa we have been writing poetry. One type of poem we wrote was a 5 Senses poem. First we chose a theme, then we wrote out ‘I can’ statements for each of our 5 senses to do with our theme. Our challenge was to then re-write them without using ‘I can’. Here is what we came up with.
